I'm sorry it's been so long since I last posted here...so much seems to have happened that I have completely run out of time!
BUT, with school back, people back at work and a (fairly) normal life returning, I'm back...I think :)

The good news is that Mary has decided to grant all us poor overworked scrappers an extension on the deadline for our first Challenge of 2012... 'What the Holidays Mean to Me'. Phew...thanks Mary!
Remember way back in December? I don't, so I've added the criteria here again LOL!

This can cover Christmas, New Year, Australia Day, or good old family fun and holidays away, so plenty of opportunities to scrap.
There are two categories:
Layouts
Off the page (can include Mini-Albums, Frames, anything that is not a page layout etc)

There will be two prizes: one for the over-all winner as voted by the Design Team and our Members and the other will be a random draw for someone who has entered both the page and beyond the page categories. Winners will select a prize from the "Challenge Prize Cupboard".
You can enter as many times as you like, but please have your entries in the Gallery by the end of February 15th 2012.

Cyber Crop Winners...and a new Challenge

Hi everyone...sorry, I've been a bit slack lately and missed a week or two here on the blog!! You can blame it on Christmas and the extra running around we all do at this time of year.

First of all, congratulations to all of you who entered and won the games or challenges from our Mini Album cyber crop...the prize cupboard is a bit emptier thanks to our game winners, and store vouchers are winging their way to our lucky Challenge winners.

Secondly......drumroll...

To get your creativity moving Mary has just announced a new "Holiday Challenge" in the forum...starting now and running until the end of January.

The theme of this challenge is "What the Holidays mean to me"

This can cover Christmas, New Year, Australia Day, or good old family fun and holidays away, so there are plenty of opportunities to scrap your memories of this time of year.
Normally, along with lots of Christmas scrapping, we would expect to see some sunny seaside pics, outdoor BBQ's or picnics etc.....but this year maybe we will see some umbrellas, soggy pets and children,....oh dear, what's happening to our summer!!

There are two categories for this challenge
1. Layouts
2. Off the page (can include Mini-Albums, Frames, anything that is not a page layout etc)

There will be two prizes too! One for the over-all winner as voted by the Design Team and our Members and the other a random draw from those of you who have entered both the layout and beyond the page categories.

That's right, we're going to squeeze in a Cyber Crop before Christmas!!

Join us in the Forum and Chat Room (the link to the chat room is over there on the right) from 7:30pm AEDST on Thursday 8th December for all the fun of a Cybercrop.

To clarify times: 7:30pm for NSW and Victoria, . 6:30pm for our Queenslanders. 4:30pm for Western Australia and 7:00pm for South Australia

We will be working on a mini-album, however you can adapt the criterea of any of the three challenges to suit a 12x12 or 8 x 8 format if you prefer.

Christmas Challenge 2011

Thank you to everyone who participated in our 2011 Christmas Challenge. If you have not yet had the opportunity to check all the beautiful entries in the Gallery - I would hightly recommend grabbing a cuppa and taking a few minutes to be inspired.
Our little Elf has been busy tallying up all the votes, and has let me know that Maggie is the winner of this challenge, which Angela in a very close second.

Week Six - the final week!

Here are your final challenges....first a card from Mary:

For this week's card I have used Kaisercraft's December 25th collection We still have some stocks of this great collection available in store.

This week I would like you to include the following elements in your card design:

1. Fold your card differently (anything but the standard-down-the-middle fold)
2. Choose a shape and repeat this throughout your design
and lastly -
3. Gold; add some gold into your design, no matter how much or how little.

Welcome to Week 5 of the Christmas Challenge!

The gallery continues to expand, filled with Christmas cheer and gorgeous cards, tags and ATC's. Votes are being counted by our visiting Elf, and soon we will know who is going to win the great prizes.

This week we have another two challenges, and another wonderful guest 'Challenger' from our members, this time Angela.

Angela has come up with some great challenge criteria and has created a gorgeous Gift Tag:

Hi Everyone,

I have the privilege this week of setting a challenge and decided it would be a gift tag challenge. :)

The criteria for the gift tag is:
1. Stamped image
2. Add colour - e.g. use copics, textas, paint, pencils, pastels, ink, paint, etc. to add colour to your image and/or tag.
3. Use something old from your stash. In my case I used an eyelet and xmas paper from a couple of years ago.

Here's my sample made especially for my young nephew:

The second challenge this week is an ATC from Michele

Welcome to challenge 2 for week 5! The weeks are just flying by aren't they?

This week I have another ATC for you - I love ATC's .

The criteria for this challenge are:

1. Red....I need to see some nice bright red on your ATC. I have a red background, a red brad for the door handle and some red rhinestones on my wreath.
2. A wreath. I really would like to see you make some sort of wreath for this one, but a stamped or store bought one would be fine too. I couldn't find one to buy that was small enough so I made mine from a border punched rosette - there is a tutorial here in the Tips & Techniques thread. For this one I punched the whole edge of a sheet of Bo Bunny's Father Christmas 'Holly', then trimmed it to about 1/2 an inch wide before scoring and folding.
3. Emboss something...either heat embossed or dry embossed. Here I used my cuttlebug on the red cardstock for a sort of stone wall effect and used black embossing powder on the stamped door.

Christmas Challenge Week 4

It's Week 4 and we have more exciting challenges coming your way to help you build up a supply of Christmas cards, tags and ATC's to send to your friends, decorate your gifts and display in your home for the festive season. Not long to go now!!

This week the first challenge is another card, this time from Michele:

It's my turn again for Week 4, and the card I have made for this challenge is a simple one - just not a square or a rectangular one :)

The three criteria to include in your card this week are:

1. Make your card a different shape. Round or oval, bracket shaped or punched, triangular or maybe hexagonal - just not a square or a rectangle.
2. Put a hand made banner somewhere on your card.
3. Use chipboard - anything at all, as long as it's chippie.

My example:

Obviously the shape is triangular....the banner is made from some scraps of CI 'Night Divine' threaded on a piece of string and the letters (Scrapware Antique Lower Case) and the star are gold embossed chipboard (AED Just Gold). The star and the banner pieces are popped up on Mini Magic Mount. The PP is from the MME Lost and Found 6x6 paper pad..'Portabello Road' and all the edges are inked with Tim Holtz Frayed Burlap and Pine Needles Distress Inks. 'Wishing you...' is stamped with Versafine Vintage Sepia ink and I finished it off by randomly adding some Old Paper Distress Stickles to some of the circles.

And Challenge number two is an ATC from Mary:

My apologies for this being so late in getting to you. With work and then internet issues, it really has been rather trying.
I've had to take my photo inside, as we've had really bad weather for outdoor photographs, so please excuse the image quality. With all that said, I really enjoyed creating this ATC using Webster's Pages Waiting For Santa collection.

When creating your ATC, please include the following criterea:

1. A Creature (Animal or Bird, etc)
2. Use some Ribbon or Trim
3. Use a Word or Sentiment that starts with the same letter as your name.

Have fun creating, and don't forget the midnight Thursday deadline.

November...and a new Sketch Challenge

November is with us again!
I hope you all enjoyed Halloween, and backed a winner in the Melbourne Cup yesterday. We didn't get many Trick or Treaters this year, and the up side (or down side if you are dieting) to that is lots of leftover loot for us to enjoy :)

With the new month comes a new Sketch Challenge, this time from Mary:

I simply can't believe that it is November!!! but it is, and so it is time for November's Sketch Challenge.

As soon as I saw this picture of DS1 playing rugby it was just screaming out "scrap me, scrap me". I love the picture; it just really shows the moment - DS1's "grit", the expressions of his teammates and spectators...
So without further ado, here is my example:

The papers are from Bo Bunny's Cambridge collection, as is the trim on the upper left, just below the title. The chipboard pieces are from Twiddleybitz; Chicken Wire Mesh and Steam Punk Clock with Gears. These have had Twiddleybitz Rusting Powder applied (my new favourite scrappy product) to give them the aged metallic look. The trim under the title was a light colour and so I have aged this also with the Rusting Powder. (Rusting Powder is currently out of stock, but re-stocks are on order and should arrive next week).
The title for this layout was cut from the Marah Johnson designed Creative Imaginations "Grit" paper.

Of course the 2011 Christmas Challenge is still going strong, with week 4 starting on Thursday. There are some wonderful cards, tags and ATC's in the Gallery, and still three weeks of great challenges coming up.

Christmas Challenge Week 3

Welcome to Week 3 of our Christmas Challenge. Half way through!!

To add to the amazing-ness we already have in the gallery we have two new challenges for you today.

The first is from Ngaire:

For my challenge this week it's time for a game of tag - Christmas tag - and you're it. It might not be as stunning and spectacular as Timmy's - (and I bet it cost a whole heap less to make too) but here is my sample tag, made with the lovely December 25th range from Kaiser.

My three criteria are as follows:

1. Distressing - get out that cute pink, Heidi Swapp circle, or Timmy's little tool or just a pair of scissors - and tear. rip and crumple away to your hearts content.
2. Inking - I want to see lashings of it - ink your edges, the paper in general, do some stamping or even alter the colour of your embellishments - I just want to see those gorgeous Xmas colours all over the place.
3. Tis the season - to add charms - somewhere, anywhere - and anything. I want to see a charming trinket on your tag.

....and the second is a beautiful card from our first Guest Designer, Maggie (Antique Girl):

Welcome to Week 3. I thought how about a White/Creamy Tranquil Theme - maybe due to dreaming of a "White Christmas" plus it's a soothing colour, especially after that ripping, distressing & colours gone wild that our lovely Ngaire has set (mind you I love that) !!

For the challenge this is what I would like you to do:

1. Use white/creamy tones of ribbon & bling accents
2. Stamped Image of a "Angel" (which can be placed anywhere on Card)
3. A "Wish" sentiment (on mine is "peace on earth" on ribbon)

Here is my example...

For my card (white) I used Crafty Individuals Stamp & because of the fine detail I inked with Versafine "Sepia" and used a little Tim Holtz's Platinum Distress Stickles, so that the stamp still showed the wing detail & a little on the edge. I used three ribbons, Cobweb ribbon adhered to card, an organza with satin edge to fill the space between & placed the peace on earth ribbon on top. I placed loose pearls randomly in some of the cobweb ribbon holes (the sheen of the pearls played a little havoc when photographed & looks a little better IRL). My sentiment is on the ribbon !

Week 2 of the Christmas Challenge

'Morning ladies!

Loving the gallery at the moment with all the gorgeous Christmas cards and tags!!
I was inspired as well and have done both challenges (even though Mary wont let me win the stamps).

Right now there are two new challenges up in the Forum for you.

Challenge #1 from Michele is an ATC

The best thing about ATC's (Artist Trading Cards) is their verstility.

You can do anything you like with them...use them on their own as gift cards, stick them to the centre of a bigger card, use them as embellishments on your layouts or swap them with friends.
There's only one hard and fast rule to follow when you're making ATC's - the finished size has to be 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) x 3.5 inches (8.9 cm).
Other than that, anything goes. You can use paint, stamp them, emboss, glitter, layer, distress, whatever takes your fancy. You can make just one, or a series and they can either be all the same or all different. It doesn't matter. They're a lot of fun to make - and even more fun to swap.

For this challenge I have made a set of three cards, but I don't expect you to make three - one will do (of course if you'd like to make more that's great too!).
The three things I would like to see on your ATC (or ATC's) are:

1. Snow - flakes, flurries or drifts
2. Bling - glitter, rhinestones or pearls
3. Layers - put something up on pop dots or magic mount so that it stands out a little

Here are my three examples:

The Angel & Reindeer stamps are from Inkadinkadoo and the Snowman is Tim Holtz. They are stamped with Tim Holtz Chipped Saphire Distress Ink and embossed with clear embossing powder. The embossing folder is a Cuttlebug one and the 'snow' is Diamond Dust. My stamped images are cut out and mounted on Mini Magic Mount squares. The Rhinestones are Kaisercraft.

....and Challenge #2 from Mary is a very cute card

I decided I wanted to have some fun with this one. I have had this set of Inkadinkado stamps for years and not used them (they certainly would have qualified for Ngaire's challenge last week, for something in the stash that hadn't been used in a while).

This week I would like you to include the following criterea in your card: 1. Use a medium like flocking, embossing powder or glitter (I have used embossing powder and flocking)
2. A stamped Image and/or Sentiment
3. Black & White + one other colour (you can however use several different shades of that colour)

So here is my example:

Week 1 of the Christmas Challenge

Our 2011 Christmas Challenge kicked off in the Ideal Chat Room last night. Mary organised a festive Word Scramble to get us into the Christmas Spirit, which Maggie won convincingly :) Congratulations Maggie - a $10 store voucher is on it's way to you. Happy shopping!

Challenge #1 from Ngaire is a Christmas Card

Simple, cards and me - sort of like connecting dots in a straight line. I like my cards to be quick and easy, no-fuss affairs - and I prefer to make them out of left-overs where I can.
So for my challenge this week - to get the ball rolling - I have something pretty easy going in mind. My three criteria are as follows:

1. Pick a theme, some element that is repeated on your card - either in the paper or the embellishments or both.
2. Use any combination of the following traditional colours - red, green, cream (or white) and gold.
3. Dig out something you have had in your stash for a while and use that.

For my card I have used this years Xmas release from Kaiser - December 25th - to create a simple card (using all 4 colours) that has a holly theme (the patterned paper; wooden flourish and the postage stamp design) and features an old Kaiser wooden holly flourish from my stash.

....and Challenge #2 from Mary is a Tag

What better way to dress up your Christmas Gifts than with a stunning hand made Tag! They are great to make from left over bits and pieces, but can really add that special little touch.

There are 3 little things to include in this tag challenge:
1. Use a patterned Background
2. Cut elements/decorations from paper (preferably scraps)
3. Add a charm

I have used papers from the gorgeous Webster's Pages "Waiting for Santa" collection, from last Christmas (there are still stocks of this collection available in store. http://www.idealpapercraft.com.au/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1467_1706&zenid=d651b039d6a1e4ea1618ffb3fe768311

The main tag is cut from "The Delivery" while all other elements come from pieces of "Fa-La-La". I have spritzed the roses with a little "Irridescent Gold" Glimmer Mist and added a double star charm.

Good morning!!

Come in to Ideal Papercraft and join us for our exciting Christmas Challenge.

Starting tomorrow, Thursday 13th October, and running for the next 6 weeks our Design Team will be setting you two fun and festive challenges to complete each week.

By the end of November you will have 12 Christmas Cards, Tags or ATC's to send to your friends and family, or to make your presents look better than fantastic under the tree. A great start to your Christmas preparations!

We will start off this challenge with a game and a gossip in our Chat Room (the link to the IPC Chat Room is just over there on the right) at 8:00pm AEDST. Thats 5:00pm in WA, and 7:00pm in Queensland. Hope you can be there!
The fabulous prize for the game win is a $10 store voucher!

When all the entries are all in, you can vote for your favourites by sending Mary a PM with your choices....3 points for your absolute favourite and then 2 points and 1 point for your next two.

We have a fabulous prize for the overall winner at the end of the 6 weeks - your choice of either:
A complete set of Kaisercraft's gorgeous "Silly Season" products

or a beautiful set of Darkroom Door Christmas Stamps

The second place getter will receive the other prize.

Not only that, but after the first two weeks, the Design Team will select a participant who will then be asked to create one of the challenges for a future week.
